Don't take our word for it

Thousands of locals and international visitors alike love us on TripAdvisor and Google Reviews. With reviews like this, it's understandable that Auckland Museum is the top ranked Museum in Auckland

"It started with a beautiful smile and welcome at the ticket counter. You have to do the Māori cultural performance. They were beyond amazing and what was said, taught, sung and performed was so emotional, inspiring, and spot on true. It is not a show, it is a glimpse into a way of life, and you are lucky if you get the chance to experience that."

"The galleries are very well put, and the collections are great. They have many interactive displays and a room mostly for kids. The Māori exhibitions are very nice. There is also a (temporary) Māori cultural event which is amazing! The gift shop is also very cool to buy souvenirs. A must go museum in Auckland!"

"This museum is a wonderful introduction to NZ/ Māori history and culture. We recommend both the Highlights Tour (about an hour) and the Māori performance. One of the highlights of our stay in Auckland."

"Amazing museum! So many exhibits, all incredibly well displayed and with excellent accompanying detail. You could spend weeks here and not see everything. I learned so much in my few hours here. I love how the different cultures and stories are represented. I went solo, but there were so many things for children and families to do - I highly recommend staying here. There is ample parking both under the museum and outside, and as a resident of Auckland I had free admission. There were two coffee shops and a beautiful shop. Lots to explore!"

"We really enjoyed our visit to Auckland Museum. There is so much there that you can learn about the Māori art, history and culture - as well as various artefacts sourced from other Pacific Island nations. On other floors, you can find exhibits illustrating ancient and modern history around the world, experience a volcanic eruption, and learn about the Kiwis' contribution in the two world wars. There is even a Spitfire there!"
